Grading Toxicity

Heart failure (left ventricular)

Definition: A disorder characterized by the inability of the heart to pump blood at an adequate volume to meet tissue metabolic requirements.

  • Asymptomatic with laboratory or cardiac imaging abnormalities
  • Symptoms with mild to moderate activity or exertion
  • Severe with symptoms at rest or with minimal exertion (intervention needed)
  • Life threatening consequences (urgent intervention required)

Management

  • Monitor weight, changes in breathing, presence of extremity edema, chest/back/arm/jaw pain and/or pressure
  • ECG, ECHO, stress test cardiology referral, 2 mg/kg prednisone; discontinue therapy
  • Seek immediate care in ED for chest pain/pressure to evaluate for a cardiac etiology
